How does medical microneedling work ?
Medical microneedling uses a cartridge of sterile, super fine needles which are mounted into an electronic dermastamp / dermapen / skinpen
The depth of needle penetration can be adjusted from 0.1mm to 1.5mm depending on the thickness of the skin being treated.
We use Genuine Dermaroller’s eDS needling pen using German engineered surgical steel needle cartridges which produce 100-150 micro channels per second.
When passed across the skin thousands of micro-punctures are created in the upper layers of the skin, these naturally stimulate the body’s own “wound healing response” to produce more collagen.
These tiny punctures close up almost immediately – there is NO obvious bleeding!
Clinical studies show there is a 400% increase in the production of healthy, elastic classes of collagen.
The process results in tighter, firmer skin, wrinkles and scarring reduced and pigmentation more uniform. The process helps to re-thicken and fortify ageing or fragile skin
Mainly used on the face, this procedure can be carried out anywhere on the body, such as on stretch marks, surgical or traumatic scars and is effective on all skin types.
The needles used in our “in-clinic” treatments reach the papillary dermal layer of the skin. This is where both elastin and collagen fibres are to be found (see illustration).
Cosmetic rollers (used for home use), however, only penetrate to a low level in the skin (epidermis) where they assist in the absorption of suitable topical products.
Microneedling Treatments
Sessions with medical grade microneedling take between 10 – 20 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
The treatment is well tolerated with some mild discomfort.
Skin will be pink or red in appearance following treatment – however much of this is relieved by the post needling Dermalux / Healite LED light therapy we incorporate into your treatment
Recovery from Microneedling Treatments
Your skin will be flushed, pink or red after treatment which may take 24 hours up to a few days to settle down. Most people should be able to return to normal routine the following day. You can expect the skin to feel sensitive, warm, tighter with minor flaking or dryness of the skin for a couple of days
Hyperpigmentation is a very rare occurrence and usually clears up after a month. If you are prone to cold sores, you might experience a flare-up after treatment. (We recommend you seek a prescription for your usual cold sore treatment from your GP / pharmacist before treatment)
Results
It can take between 4 – 8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue over the following months, with a gradual improvement.
Even after a single treatment there can be a noticeable improvement, but we recommend a programme of two to five treatments even spaced over a period six to eight weeks in order to achieve the most optimal results.
The specific number of sessions required will depend on the area being treated and the severity of the problem, as well as the level of natural response from the individual’s body.
